Sometimes (like the other day) diving in the slough can be pretty murky and difficult. But working hard (and safely) can be come of the most rewarding days of data collection!
Anya Morrill (left) and Natalie Rossi (right) mid-entry into the water using the back-roll method. You just sit your bum on the side of the boat (if you have your SCUBA gear ON, like Natalie does) use the palm of your hand to hold your mask and regulator in place as you hit the water…also always have your BCD inflated so you don’t descend when you are not yet ready! In this situation Anya (left) has her SCUBA gear floating in the water and she’s going to put it on after she back rolls in. So for Anya the main thing is to not back roll ONTO your gear (because SCUBA tanks are hard and that will not feel good) and to keep what gear you are holding in your grips as you hit the water.
